What is Compress PDF?

Compress PDF files and reduce their size directly in your browser, with no upload to any server.

This tool works by rasterizing each page: it renders the page to an image at a quality and resolution you choose, then rebuilds a new PDF from those images. That approach dramatically shrinks large, scanned, or image-heavy PDFs (photos, screenshots, slides exported to PDF), often cutting file size by a large margin. The tradeoff is honest and important: because pages become images, any selectable text in the output becomes part of the picture and can no longer be selected, copied, or searched. It is best for scanned documents and image-based PDFs where you mainly need a smaller file to email, upload, or store. Pick from three presets (High quality, Balanced, Smallest) or fine-tune the raw scale and JPEG quality yourself, then compare the before and after sizes and download. For already-optimized, text-only PDFs the rasterized result can sometimes be larger than the original, and the tool tells you when that happens instead of pretending it shrank. All processing happens client-side, so your files never leave your device, which makes it safe for private and confidential documents.
